so, i'm reading through the bible in 90 days with a mom's book club through church. i'm currently in psalms. you know there's some powerful stuff in here! Jesus quotes david in ps 22 while He's on the cross. Jesus quotes: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me? (Matt 27:46). but get this, if you read on in ps 22, it's prophesying about Jesus' crux. and the Jews of the time who were witnessing the crux saw and heard what Jesus was saying. i wonder what they were thinking - did they get it??? ! it's rich -- listen to this: ps 22:16-18 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones, people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

Again Jesus quotes from Ps 31 while on the cross: ps 31:5 says "into your hands i commit my spirit" (luke 23:46). later in ps 31:11b-13 "i am a dread to my friends - those who see me on the street flee from me. i am forgotten by them as though i were dead; i have become like broken pottery. for i hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life." i wonder if Jesus was thinking of the disciples who abandoned him when he said this.

it's amazing - the pharisees would have known where Jesus was quoting from - and this didn't convince them either?! may i not be so hardhearted when i hear the Truth.
